A night of tragedy has left New York City in deep mourning. FDNY Firefighter Patrick Brady (42), a veteran of more than a decade of service, died in the line of duty Saturday night while battling a massive five-alarm fire in Brooklyn.
The blaze broke out at 9407 Kings Highway in Brownsville, where Brady suddenly fell ill while fighting the flames. He was rushed to Brookdale University Hospital, but despite the best efforts of doctors, he could not be saved.
Brady had served the Fire Department of New York for 11 years, earning the respect and admiration of his colleagues for his courage and dedication. Firefighting ran deep in his family — both of his brothers, Jimmy and Brian Brady, also serve with the FDNY.
FDNY Chief of Department John Esposito said,
“This is not an ordinary day for us. Patrick Brady was a dedicated firefighter who gave his life protecting this city.”
On Monday morning, colleagues, friends, and local residents gathered at the Brownsville firehouse to honor his memory. Black bunting was draped across the station as a solemn tribute to their fallen brother.
Brady lived in Far Rockaway, Queens, and is survived by his wife, Cara Brady.
City officials and New Yorkers across all boroughs have expressed their grief and condolences to the Brady family.
His courage, sacrifice, and sense of duty will forever remain etched in New York’s heart.
