A 15-year-old boy was critically injured in a serious traffic collision in Jamaica, Queens, on Thursday evening, July 23, after a Jeep jumped the curb, struck him on the sidewalk and then crashed into a residential apartment building.
According to police, officers from the 103rd Precinct responded to a 911 call shortly before 7:45 p.m. reporting a motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian in front of 165-10 Archer Ave. The teenager suffered severe trauma to his left leg and was rushed by EMS to Cohen Children’s Medical Center, where he was listed in critical condition.
An investigation by the NYPD Highway District’s Collision Investigation Squad determined that a 2020 Jeep Compass, driven by a 53-year-old woman, was traveling southbound on 165th Street and making a left turn onto eastbound Archer Avenue when the vehicle jumped the curb and mounted the sidewalk. The Jeep struck the teenager before crashing into the residential building and coming to a stop.
First responders extricated the driver from the vehicle. She was transported by EMS to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center, where she was listed in stable condition with minor injuries.
No arrests have been made. The investigation remains ongoing by the NYPD Highway District’s Collision Investigation Squad.
