From civilian life to becoming a U.S. Army Soldier—a remarkable story of five months of rigorous training, sacrifice, determination, and perseverance

Born in Sylhet, Bangladesh, Pankaz Talukder has achieved a remarkable milestone by transitioning from civilian life to becoming a soldier in the United States Army. His journey was far from easy. It was shaped by nearly five months of rigorous military training, intense physical and mental challenges, personal sacrifices, and unwavering determination.
Today, after overcoming countless obstacles, Talukder can proudly say: “I am a U.S. Army Soldier.”
In a Facebook post, Pankaz Talukder shared his experiences from this demanding chapter of his life, offering a glimpse into the discipline, hardship, separation from family, and perseverance that defined his journey.
Training from 3 a.m. Until 8 or 9 p.m.
According to Talukder, his training days often began at 3 or 4 a.m. and continued until 8 or 9 p.m. Sleep, rest, and personal time became rare luxuries.
From Physical Training and Mental Training to Advanced Individual Training, every stage pushed him to test and expand his physical and mental limits.
Field Training was conducted even under extreme heat. He recalled spending four consecutive days in the field in temperatures reaching approximately 110°F, facing exhaustion, insects, snakes, and difficult environmental conditions while continuing to complete his training.
From M4 Rifle Training to Live Grenades
His military training included M4 rifle shooting, live grenade training, mine detection, and various obstacle courses. Each stage presented a new challenge and required discipline, focus, and determination.
Over the course of the demanding five-month training period, Talukder lost approximately 26 pounds.
When his body told him, “I can’t go any further,” he pushed himself mentally and reminded himself:
“Try a little harder. You can do it.”
The Challenge of Being Away From Family
One of the most difficult parts of the journey was being separated from family and loved ones.
Access to a mobile phone was extremely limited. At times, he had only about 30 minutes to use his phone and speak with his family.
Those brief conversations became precious moments—small connections with the people who remained his greatest source of emotional strength during the demanding training period.
Every Drop of Sweat Became a Memory of Pride
Looking back, Talukder believes that the difficult days ultimately made him stronger, more disciplined, and more confident.
Every drop of sweat, every painful moment, every sleepless night, and every challenge became part of the journey that shaped the person he is today.
He also expressed his deep gratitude to everyone who stood beside him throughout the journey—those who encouraged him, checked on him, supported him, and gave him the mental strength to keep moving forward.
“I Am a U.S. Army Soldier”
After beginning his journey as a civilian and successfully completing an important chapter of his military training, Pankaz Talukder can now proudly declare:
“I am a U.S. Army Soldier.”
His journey is perhaps best captured in another powerful line he shared:
“The pain was temporary. The pride is forever.”
The hardships that once seemed overwhelming have now become lasting memories of achievement and pride.
For a young Bangladeshi who was born in the soil of Sylhet, this accomplishment represents more than a personal milestone. It is also a moment of pride for his family, relatives, friends, and well-wishers.
Congratulations to Pankaz Talukder on this remarkable achievement. May his courage, perseverance, discipline, and success inspire a new generation to pursue their dreams with determination and pride.
