Despite the sweltering heat, laughter, music, games and delicious food turned the gathering into a vibrant celebration of friendship and community.

By Husneara Choudhury, New York:

Despite the intense summer heat, nothing could dampen the spirit of celebration as members, families and invited guests of the New York Elite Club gathered on August 19 for their 2026 Annual Picnic at the picturesque Belmont Lake State Park in West Babylon, New York.

Under a blazing summer sun, the gathering gradually transformed into a lively celebration filled with laughter, conversations, music, games, barbecue and delicious food. What began as a warm afternoon soon became a memorable day of friendship, family and community.

Attendance was relatively light in the morning because of the scorching temperatures. But as the day progressed—particularly around noon and 12:30 p.m.—guests arrived one after another, many bringing their families and children. Smiling faces and cheerful greetings quickly filled the picnic area.

A Refreshing Welcome

The organizers had made thoughtful arrangements to help guests beat the heat. Fresh, sweet watermelon, sliced and ready to serve, offered a refreshing welcome during the hot afternoon. Light snacks and cold soft drinks followed, providing much-needed relief from the summer heat.

The natural beauty of Belmont Lake State Park added another dimension to the celebration. Surrounded by greenery, shaded areas and the tranquil atmosphere of the park, guests quickly forgot the heat and immersed themselves in the beauty of nature.

Children ran around the park enjoying themselves, while adults gathered for lively conversations, laughter and friendship. The picnic gradually became much more than a simple outdoor gathering—it became a true community reunion.

Dedicated Organizers Behind the Celebration

The success of the event was made possible by the hard work and dedication of the organizers.

Picnic conveners Shakil Mia and Rafiqul Islam worked tirelessly under the hot sun, overseeing the barbecue and preparing delicious mutton dishes for the guests.

Rocky took charge of the children’s games and entertainment, keeping the younger guests engaged throughout the day. Musicians Kamruzzaman Bakul and Sayem carefully prepared their musical instruments and created a lively musical atmosphere.

Meanwhile, Biplob stayed busy preparing fresh and delicious salad for everyone.

The lively conversations among the women, the children’s constant excitement and the cheerful atmosphere among the guests added to the festive spirit. Photographer Mahi Ahmed James was busy capturing special moments throughout the day, while Elite Club President Azim and Duke Khan remained actively involved in supervising and coordinating the event.

Games, Laughter and a Grand Raffle Draw

The games and competitions were among the highlights of the picnic. Women participated in pillow-pass games, while men and children enjoyed a variety of fun competitions organized by Rocky.

The games brought laughter, excitement and friendly competition to the gathering, with participants of all ages joining in the fun.

The celebration concluded with an exciting raffle draw, followed by the distribution of prizes among the winners.

Distinguished Guests Add Special Significance

The event was honored by the presence of CIP Shah Newaz, one of New York’s prominent businessmen, successful entrepreneurs and community philanthropists, who attended as the Chief Guest. His presence added special significance and prestige to the celebration.

Among the invited guests were prominent Bangladesh Society personality Mohammad Ali, community figures Fahad Sulaiman and Ratan Kabir, noted writer and journalist Shah J. Chowdhury, journalist Akbar Haider Kiran, writer Shibbir Ahmed, community activist Ridwanul Haque, and community members Gazi Sohel, Mofizul Islam, Khairul Islam Khokon, Didarul Islam and Monirul Islam.

Also present was Mia Mohammad Dulal, respected Election Commissioner for the upcoming Bangladesh Society election.

Adding cultural color to the celebration was renowned Bangladeshi singer Rizia Parvin. Popular community music personalities Nazu Akand, Krishnatithi and Rosie Azad, along with Aftab Johnny and his wife, Joy, and many other distinguished members of the community also attended the event.

A Day to Remember

Despite the sweltering heat, the Elite Club’s annual picnic turned into a memorable celebration of friendship, family and community.

The combination of beautiful surroundings, delicious food, music, games, laughter and warm companionship transformed the gathering into a vibrant social reunion.

As the day came to an end, guests left with smiles on their faces and cherished memories in their hearts—a reminder that even on one of New York’s hottest summer days, friendship and togetherness can bring a cool touch of joy.
