Entertainment Desk: The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has delayed the Oscar 2025 nominations announcement for a second time due to the Los Angeles wildfires. Initially, the voting period was extended by two days to provide members with more time, moving the announcement to January 19.
The new date for the announcement of the 97th Oscars nominations is now January 23. Academy CEO Bill Kramer and President Janet Yang confirmed this change, stating that the announcement will be held virtually without in-person media attendance.
In a joint statement, Kramer and Yang expressed deep sorrow over the devastating impact of the fires and the losses experienced by the community.
They highlighted the Academy’s commitment to unity within the film industry and pledged support during these difficult times. To address the ongoing challenges, the Academy has adjusted its schedule, including cancelling the annual nominees’ luncheon, to respect the region’s strained infrastructure and lodging demands.
Despite these changes, the Oscars ceremony is still planned for March 2 at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood.
