Entertainment Desk: Many celebrities have lost their homes in the Los Angeles wildfires. Award ceremonies have been postponed, and shootings have been cancelled. Amid this, Oscar-winning actress Jamie Lee Curtis has announced a donation of $1 million to aid those affected.
Film studios are stepping up to help as devastating wildfires sweep through Los Angeles County, destroying over 10,000 buildings, claiming lives, and causing damage estimated in the tens of billions. Now, Disney has announced a significant donation as well.
Disney, based in Burbank, announced on Friday a $15 million donation to support various relief efforts. The funds will go to organisations such as the American Red Cross, the Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation, and the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank.
“As this tragedy unfolds, The Walt Disney Company is dedicated to helping our community and staff recover and rebuild,” said Disney CEO Bob Iger.
At the same time, Paramount Global’s co-chiefs, Brian Robbins, Chris McCarthy, and George Cheeks, announced in a staff memo that the company would donate £800,000 to groups like the Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation, California Fire Foundation, Red Cross, Direct Relief, World Central Kitchen, and Best Friends Animal Society.
