Elected Officials Seek Answers Over Alleged Use of Bulova Corporate Center Parking Lot Before Immigration Enforcement Operations

Questions are mounting in Queens over allegations that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers and vehicles are using the parking lot of the Bulova Corporate Center in East Elmhurst as a staging area before carrying out immigration enforcement operations in surrounding neighborhoods.
The allegations have prompted several elected officials to seek clarification from the property’s management.
Located at 75-20 Astoria Blvd., near LaGuardia Airport, the Bulova Corporate Center is a large commercial complex that houses a variety of businesses and organizations.
Questions Over ICE Vehicles
According to local officials, ICE vehicles have recently been seen gathering in the property’s parking area. They allege that officers may be using the location to prepare for or coordinate enforcement operations in nearby communities.
Assembly Member Jessica González-Rojas, U.S. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and City Council Member Tiffany Cabán were among the officials who sent a letter on September 1 to Edward Blumenfeld, president of Blumenfeld Development Group, seeking clarification about ICE’s presence at the property.
The officials specifically questioned whether ICE has been permitted to use the parking lot as a staging location for enforcement activities.
‘ICE Does Not Have an Office’ at the Property
In response, management reportedly stated that “ICE does not have an office at the Bulova Corporate Center.”
However, González-Rojas has indicated that the response does not address the central issue: whether ICE personnel and vehicles are using the parking lot as a staging area.
The officials are seeking a more direct explanation regarding the nature and extent of ICE activity at the property and whether management has taken any action concerning such use.
Concerns Over ICE Presence in East Elmhurst
The controversy comes amid broader concerns surrounding federal immigration enforcement in Queens.
A separate incident referenced in the report involved an alleged confrontation in the area of 24th Avenue and 97th–98th Streets, where an ICE officer was accused of pointing a firearm at an individual. Video referenced in the report reportedly showed an armed person pointing a weapon toward someone recording from inside a vehicle.
The circumstances surrounding that incident and any subsequent official action remain matters of public concern.
Immigration Community Watching Closely
East Elmhurst, Jackson Heights and surrounding neighborhoods are home to large and diverse immigrant communities. The reported presence of ICE vehicles near residential and commercial areas has therefore drawn heightened attention from local residents and community advocates.
The debate touches on broader questions involving immigration enforcement, arrests, detention, due process and the potential impact of enforcement actions on immigrant families.
Calls for a Clear Explanation
At the center of the controversy is a straightforward question: Is ICE using the Bulova Corporate Center parking lot as a staging location before enforcement operations in Queens?
While the property’s management has stated that ICE does not maintain an office at the complex, elected officials are seeking clarification on whether ICE personnel and vehicles are using the property for other operational purposes.
The issue has now placed the Bulova Corporate Center, private-property use and federal immigration enforcement in Queens under increased public scrutiny.
