WASHINGTON (WABC) — President Donald Trump hosted first responders and officials from the FDNY during a ceremony on The Ellipse near the White House on Tuesday.
It was in honor of the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks.
A steel beam recovered from the South Tower of the World Trade Center was featured as part of the ceremony.
The beam is 12 feet and 16,900 pounds and was brought to Washington D.C. by the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, an organization that has been touring with the beam across the U.S.
“President Trump will pay tribute to the American heroes we lost in the tragic September 11th attacks, their beautiful family members, and to the acts of heroism that defined that fateful day when the unbreakable spirit of the American people prevailed. The President will stand with first responders to renew our sacred vow that we will never forget – and that the United States of America will always defend our proud, free nation with unyielding resolve,” White House Spokesperson Olivia Wales said in a statement ahead of Tuesday morning’s ceremony.
