Husneara Choudhury: A human chain and protest rally were held in New York in condemnation of the brutal killing of retired teacher Ganapati Chakraborty and three other members of his family in Rangpur, Bangladesh. The protesters demanded a fair and impartial investigation into the killings and swift punishment for those responsible.
The demonstration was organized by United Hindus of USA Inc. in the Diversity area of New York. A large number of expatriate Bangladeshis participated in the protest, seeking to draw international attention to the tragic incident and to strengthen calls for justice.
The main slogan of the demonstration was: “Demonstration against killing of 4 Hindus in same family in Bangladesh.”
Speakers at the rally expressed deep concern over incidents of violence, persecution and killings involving members of minority communities in Bangladesh. They emphasized that every citizen, regardless of religious identity, has the right to security, justice and equal protection under the law.
A significant number of schoolchildren also attended the protest. Many of them carried placards expressing solidarity with the victims and calling for justice. Their participation added a powerful dimension to the demonstration and highlighted the importance of ensuring a safe and inclusive future for the next generation.
Participants called for a thorough and impartial investigation into the killings of Ganapati Chakraborty and his family members. They urged the authorities to identify the motive behind the incident, determine whether it was premeditated, and bring everyone involved to justice.
The protesters also called on the Bangladesh government to ensure that the investigation is conducted without political or external influence and that those responsible are arrested promptly and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
Expressing condolences to the bereaved family, the organizers and participants reiterated their demand for justice for the four victims and urged Bangladesh to ensure the safety, dignity and equal rights of all its citizens.
