Argument after a vehicle collision turns deadly; gunman remains at large
Sadia J. Choudhury:
— A 27-year-old delivery worker, Gurdeep Singh, was shot and killed in Brooklyn Friday night in what police are investigating as a possible road-rage incident.
The shooting happened at approximately 10 p.m. near Crescent Street and Stanley Avenue in the East New York section of Brooklyn.
According to preliminary information, Singh was riding a scooter while making a food delivery when a dark-colored Lexus allegedly struck his scooter from behind. A confrontation reportedly followed, with the driver and Singh arguing before the situation escalated into a physical altercation.
Witnesses said the driver allegedly threatened Singh before returning to his vehicle and retrieving a firearm. The suspect then allegedly opened fire, striking Singh, before fleeing the scene in the Lexus.
Police and emergency medical personnel responded to the scene and found Singh critically wounded. He was transported to Brookdale Hospital Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
Investigators said the suspected gunman fled northbound on Crescent Street following the shooting. No arrest had been reported as of the latest update.
Detectives are reviewing surveillance video from the surrounding area and speaking with witnesses as they work to identify and locate the suspect.
Singh was a resident of Queens and worked as a delivery driver. Reports from Indian media indicate that his family roots were in Punjab, India. Additional details about his family background have not yet been independently confirmed by local authorities.
The tragic death has once again raised concerns about the dangers of road rage and gun violence on New York City streets. What began as an apparent traffic-related dispute quickly escalated into a fatal confrontation, leaving a young delivery worker dead and a suspect on the run.
The investigation remains ongoing.
