Retired Teacher, Wife and Two Children Among the Victims; Strangulation Suspected as Police, CID and DB Investigate

News Desk: Four members of a Hindu family were found dead inside their locked home in the Daspara-Machhuapara area of Rangpur city, sparking shock and concern among local residents. Police suspect that the victims may have been strangled, although the exact cause of death is yet to be confirmed.

The deceased have been identified as Ganapati Chakraborty, 65, a retired teacher; his wife, Pritilata Chakraborty, 50; their daughter, Agami Chakraborty, 23; and their 12-year-old son, Priyam Chakraborty. The family lived on the second floor of a house in the Machhuapara area.

According to police and relatives, family members had been unable to contact them for several days, and their mobile phones were reportedly switched off. Concerned relatives went to the residence on Saturday night and found the main entrance locked. They subsequently alerted police.

Police arrived at the scene and broke open the lock to enter the house. The bodies of all four family members were subsequently recovered from different parts of the residence.

Based on the condition of the house and the circumstances surrounding the deaths, investigators suspect that the incident may have been a planned killing rather than natural deaths. Possible signs of strangulation are also being examined as part of the investigation.

The bodies have been sent to Rangpur Medical College Hospital for autopsy. Officials said the exact cause of death will be determined after the post-mortem examinations.

Police, the Detective Branch (DB) and the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) have joined the investigation. Investigators have collected evidence from the scene and are examining several possible leads, including whether the family had any personal or financial disputes, whether robbery or theft was involved, and what may have motivated the killings.

Investigators are also examining the family’s recent activities and communications and are questioning people in the surrounding area to establish a timeline of events.

The deaths have caused deep shock and grief in the neighborhood, particularly because all four members of the same family were found dead inside their home. However, authorities have not confirmed any specific motive for the incident, including whether it was connected to the family’s religious identity.

Police said the investigation remains ongoing and that efforts are underway to determine the exact circumstances of the deaths, identify those responsible and establish the motive behind the incident.
