A musical celebration of unity, heritage, and patriotism among the diaspora
Salman J. Choudhury | New York: The Bangladeshi community in New York is embracing a festive mood as preparations intensify for the upcoming Bangladesh Day Parade scheduled for May 17, 2026, in Jackson Heights. One of the key highlights of this year’s celebration is a newly produced official theme song, whose mastering has recently been completed.
The song, composed by renowned Bangladeshi music director Ibrar Tipu, features vocals from a lineup of popular contemporary artists, including Kamruzzaman Bakul, Bindukona, Shah Mahbub, Trinya Hasan, Krishna Tithi, and Nazu Akand.
The lyrics have been written by acclaimed children’s writer and poet Humayun Kabir Dhali. The song beautifully reflects themes of unity, brotherhood, and patriotism among the Bangladeshi diaspora. One of the featured lines calls for collective celebration, saying:
“Let us all come together, in unity we go / Let’s move toward Jackson Heights in a festive flow.”
According to poet Humayun Kabir Dhali, the composition blends the rhythm of traditional Bengali instruments such as the dhol and tabla with a deep emotional connection to the soil of Bangladesh. He added that the song also carries a message of commitment to promoting the Bengali language and culture on a global stage, while encouraging unity beyond divisions.
Organizers stated that the goal of the song is to inspire younger generations of the diaspora to stay connected with their roots and the red-and-green spirit of Bangladesh. The fusion of traditional and modern musical elements is expected to enhance the energy and enthusiasm of parade participants.
The overall coordination of the event is being managed by Fahad Solaiman, Member Secretary of the Bangladesh Day Parade committee. He expressed hope that the theme song will not only energize the parade but also create a lasting sense of patriotism in the hearts of Bangladeshi expatriates.
On May 17, the streets of Jackson Heights are expected to come alive with thousands of participants, as the rhythm of the new theme song sets the tone for a grand celebration of unity, culture, and identity.
