A pirated copy of Christopher Nolan’s “The Odyssey” has been removed from Elon Musk’s platform X, but not before a post flagging its presence racked up millions of views.
A high-quality bootleg version of the film began circulating over the weekend after an account linked to it posted, “Someone uploaded ‘The Odyssey’ full movie on X. Can you believe it?”
That post alone drew more than 3 million views before X suspended the account hosting the leaked film, reports The Guardian.
Nolan’s film has been both a critical and commercial success since its release in early July, earning strong reviews and crossing $600 million at the global box office.
How the near three-hour film was obtained and leaked remains unclear.
The leak does not appear to have hurt the film’s box office run.
Global earnings have climbed to $640 million after it took in $87 million in the US during its second weekend — a 30 percent drop from its opening weekend but still a strong showing in the world’s largest cinema market by revenue.
In a statement, Universal said: “We became aware of the unauthorised posting of the film and immediately initiated takedown protocols. We take copyright infringement seriously and will pursue all appropriate remedies to protect our content and intellectual property rights.”
