The victim of a violent, wrongful arrest in Brooklyn is now planning to sue.
Timothy Brown’s attorneys notified the city that they will sue, saying the arrest was “violent” and “unprovoked.”
Video showed officers beating a man during an arrest inside a Brooklyn liquor store in a case of mistaken identity.
The officers and unit involved have been under investigation since the video surfaced last Wednesday. The video shows police punching a man in the head, slamming him into the counter window, shoving him into a shelf of glass bottles that shattered, and dragging him across the glass-strewn floor, causing him to bleed.
Community activists are already condemning the case of mistaken identity arrest, and calling on the officers to be fired and prosecuted.
The mayor, condemning the actions of the officers and NYPD Commissioner Tisch, has already launched a 90-day internal review, after stripping the officers of guns and badges, and disbanding the Brooklyn North narcotics unit.
We expect to hear from both Brown and his attorneys today as they provide more details on what exactly they want from the city by filing this lawsuit.
