Los Angeles Rams cornerback Derion Kendrick is behind bars hours after helping his team defeat the Arizona Cardinals at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, Calif. Kendrick was arrested on felony gun possession early Monday morning, according to Los Angeles County jail records.
TMZ reported that the defensive back had been stopped for a traffic violation and during the stop police found a gun and marijuana in the vehicle. The 23-year-old was booked at 2:14 a.m. local time and remains in custody as of Monday night. The Rams acknowledged the arrest on Monday.
Kendrick is a former sixth-round pick out of Georgia in 2022 by the Rams and has appeared in 21 games in the NFL. He’s racked up 68 tackles, two tackles for loss and seven pass deflections to date in his NFL career while starting every game this season. McVay said the Rams were “in communication with the league early this morning” about Kendrick’s arrest.
On Sunday in the Rams’ 26-9 win over the Cardinals, Kendrick had two tackles and was on the field for 89 percent of the defensive snaps. The victory moved the Rams to 3-3 on the season after losing to the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 5, a game in which Kendrick played every defensive snap.
