New York: The historic organization Greater Noakhali Society USA has announced its new leadership. Zahid Hossain Mintu has been elected President and prominent businessman Main Uddin Pintu as General Secretary. A total of 17 executive positions were uncontested, and the Chief Election Commissioner officially declared all candidates elected.
Initially, two candidates collected nomination papers for the President’s post—Zahid Hossain Mintu and Awlad Hossain Babu. However, Babu later withdrew his candidacy, leaving Mintu to secure the position unopposed.
Over the years, Greater Noakhali Society USA has become one of the most trusted platforms for Bangladeshi expatriates in America. The organization currently owns two fully paid-off buildings in Brooklyn’s “Mini Bangladesh” Church McDonald area, with an estimated market value of nearly $4 million. In addition, it previously purchased 400 burial plots at Long Island’s Washington Memorial Park for $500,000, which has since multiplied in value.
The Society provides $6,000 in financial support to the families of deceased members for burial or repatriation of the body, with plans to further increase this amount in the future.
One of its most ambitious undertakings, the “Bangladesh Cemetery Project,” is now nearing completion. Built on 126 acres of land, the cemetery will have space for hundreds of thousands of graves. So far, approximately $3 million has been invested, and if all goes as planned, burials are expected to begin this coming October.
Newly elected President Zahid Mintu is widely regarded as a rising leader of the younger generation, praised for guiding the Society with unity and family spirit. General Secretary Main Uddin Pintu, a well-educated and respected young entrepreneur, is also expected to play a key role in strengthening the image and activities of the Society.
