Just wanted to give thoughts one the substance Weed or some might call it Marajuana. The legalization of the substance Marajuana has been very controversial for years throughout the entire country.
While around half the states in the US have already made marijuana legal (24), It still seems to be a controversial topic, even in 2024. Many people believe that marijuana has heavily impacted the youth, and legalizing it will not only promote the substance more but also give easier access to the youth, despite needing to be over the age of 21 to buy it in states that have legalized the substance.
Many people also believe that the substance is addictive and can be a gateway drug to much worse and harder substances. While I do agree that marijuana has heavily impacted the youth, I don’t agree that legalizing it will further promote it or make it easier for the youth to get their hands on the substance.
I do not personally use marijuana, but I can say, being a teen myself, that almost anyone with a phone can get their hands on marijuana illegally pretty easily if they want to. As for marijuana being addictive, there is no addictive chemical in marijuana, so it truly depends on the person whether they make it a bad habit or not.
Marijuana being a gateway drug to other harder substances can be the case for some people, but it still really depends on whether the person wants to indulge in other substances. This is not a proven theory. I think that the legalization of marijuana could help this stigma because I feel you could make the exact same argument with alcohol.
I feel that the legalization of marijuana can be an overall good thing for the country. Personally, I think that if alcohol is legal, then marijuana should be legal as well, because I genuinely think it’s much safer as long as it’s used in moderation (just like alcohol). Many teens have died due to buying and using laced marijuana or “fake marijuana” that’s loaded with harmful chemicals.
I think legalizing it can lessen the chance of teens buying laced or fake marijuana and give them a better chance of the substance being pure if they decide to buy it illegally as minors. I think this goes the same way with adults who are currently buying it illegally in a state that has not yet legalized marijuana.
Marijuana can help with things medically, can be used to somewhat treat or help some people’s stress and anxiety, and can also be a subtrance people can use just to have a good time, like many Americans do with alcohol today.
