The decision by US President Joe Biden to allow Ukraine to launch strikes deep into Russian territory with advanced US missiles has sparked alarm among Russian officials, who fear this could trigger a global conflict.
After persistent appeals from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky for authorization to utilize American weaponry to target Russian military sites well beyond Ukraine’s borders, the US has decided to move forward.
The controversial decision has observers in both Moscow and Washington concerned, with some predicting it could lead to World War Three, reports the Mirror UK.
Russian politician Maria Butina, an ally of Vladimir Putin, was one of the first to voice concerns about further escalation. She stated: “These guys, Biden’s administration, [are] trying to escalate the situation to the maximum while they still have power and are still in office.”
Butina expressed hope that “I have a great hope that Trump will overcome this decision if this has been made because they are seriously risking the start of World War Three which is not in anybody’s interest.”
Echoing her sentiments, Vladimir Dzhabarov, the first deputy head of the international affairs committee in Russia’s upper house, warned that such an action by President Joe Biden would be met with immediate repercussions.
Dzhabarov said: “This is a very big step towards the start of world war three.”
On the domestic front, Donald Trump Jr. shared his concerns on social media platform X: “The Military Industrial Complex seems to
want to make sure they get World War 3 going before my father has a chance to create peace and save lives. Gotta lock in those $Trillions. Life be damned! Imbeciles!”
