CATSKILL, N.Y. (NEWS10)– A Catskill man has been indicted by a grand jury after an alleged assault at the Greene County Office Building on July 16. According to the Greene County District Attorney’s Office, John Leibach, 39, will be arraigned on the charges Friday morning.
Officials said Leibach was inside the county building when he reportedly became belligerent. Deputies said when he was asked to leave, he then reportedly assaulted three people.
Leibach was initially charged with assault, resisting arrest and criminal trespass.
According to the DA’s Office, the grand jury has indicted him on five felony and misdemeanor charges.
Returned Indictment:
Second degree Assault, for injuring a Deputy (violent felony)
Second degree Assault, for injuring a Special Patrol Officer (violent felony)
Third degree Assault, for injuring a County Employee (misdemeanor)
Resisting Arrest (misdemeanor)
Criminal Trespass (misdemeanor)
Officials said when he was asked to leave and became belligerent, deputies deployed a taser on him multiple times and when he didn’t comply, that’s when a struggle pursued.
Officials said the sheriff’s deputy hit his head on the floor when attempting to place Leibach under arrest, causing a concussion and neck pain. A Special Patrol Officer suffered neck and back injuries during the struggle and a building employee suffered swelling and bruising to her knee.
According to the DA’s Office, Leibach remains in the Greene County Jail. Friday’s arraignment is scheduled for 2 p.m.
