Dump Truck Strikes Cyclist on West 34th Street; Driver Flees Scene as NYPD Investigates

— A cyclist was killed Monday morning after being struck by a dump truck in the heart of Midtown Manhattan, authorities said.
The crash occurred shortly before 10:50 a.m. on West 34th Street near Seventh Avenue, in the busy area surrounding Herald Square and Macy’s.
According to the NYPD’s preliminary investigation, the cyclist and dump truck were traveling in the same direction when the truck struck the cyclist. Emergency medical personnel responded to the scene and pronounced the victim dead.
The dump truck did not remain at the scene and continued westbound. Police are now working to identify the vehicle and its driver. No arrests have been reported.
West 34th Street between Seventh Avenue and Broadway was closed as investigators processed the scene. The investigation remains ongoing.
