Flooding, Powerful Winds and Severe Beach Erosion Disrupt Coastal Communities;
Another High Tide Raises Concern

— A powerful, slow-moving nor’easter continued to impact New York, Long Island and New Jersey on Monday, bringing heavy rain, strong winds and coastal flooding. Another round of high tides raised concerns for low-lying and coastal communities.
Central Park recorded significant rainfall during the storm, while parts of eastern Long Island received nearly 4 inches of rain. Some locations could see total rainfall exceeding 5 inches before the storm fully moves away.
Areas around Rockaway and Jamaica Bay experienced street flooding as strong winds and high tides pushed water onto shorelines. Residents in low-lying and flood-prone areas were urged to remain alert and avoid flooded roads.
Long Island’s South Shore also experienced flooding, with several roads and low-lying areas affected. Residents were warned to prepare for another high-tide cycle Monday morning, particularly in areas already impacted by the storm.
Along the Jersey Shore, powerful waves and coastal flooding caused significant beach erosion. In Sea Bright, 67 people were rescued from floodwaters, including 45 people rescued from their homes.
The storm also disrupted power service across parts of New York, Long Island and New Jersey after trees and power lines were knocked down. Utility crews continued restoration efforts Monday.
The unsettled weather was expected to continue through Monday, with conditions gradually improving Monday night. More stable weather was expected to return Tuesday.
