Death of Presley Gerber, Cindy Crawford’s son, being investigated as overdose

LOS ANGELES — The death of Presley Gerber, the son of Cindy Crawford and Rande Gerber, is being investigated as an overdose, police told ABC News.
The 27-year-old had checked into a high-end rehab facility the day before he was found dead by staff on Sunday, according to sources connected to the case. Santa Monica police said there no signs of foul play.
Police are waiting to find out from the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner what the drug taken was and whether it was a pharmaceutical drug or an illicit street drug.
The Department of Medical Examiner released a statement Monday morning that read, in part:
“A deputy medical examiner performed an examination today and the cause and manner of death have been deferred, which means additional testing and/or studies were requested in order to make a determination. Due to the ongoing death investigation, the DME cannot disclose what testing and/or studies were requested. Deferred cases can take a few months before a cause of death is determined. Mr. Gerber was pronounced dead at 09:45 hours on September 20, 2026, by responding paramedics.”
Further details about his cause of death were not immediately available.
Presley Gerber, brother of model and actress Kaia Gerber, had previously worked as a model, being signed by IMG Models at 15 years old.
He walked runways during fashion week for Moschino and Dolce & Gabbana and had a campaign with Calvin Klein.
Gerber had been open about his struggles with mental health and substance abuse, speaking candidly about treatment after being charged with a DUI in 2019. He had a series of videos called “Mental Health Mondays” in 2024.
Last month, Kaia Gerber referenced her brother’s public battle with addiction in an interview with Vogue.
“When something like that happens in a family, it kind of levels everyone,” she told the publication. “I think that’s also why I started to self-identify as the easy one and never wanted to ask for help. Because it felt like too much to have two children who were needing.” As she commended her brother for speaking out.
“My parents for most of our lives were very, very private and didn’t share anything,” Kaia added, “and now we have this absolute teacher, my brother, who says, ‘I’m gonna be very human for everyone.’ There’s only so much you can hide from the world. And trying to put a lid on something just makes the person feel like you’re ashamed of them.”
