NEW YORK:
With summer temperatures rising across the United States, mosquitoes are becoming a growing concern in several parts of the country. Warm temperatures, high humidity, frequent rainfall and standing water are among the key factors that create favorable conditions for mosquito breeding.
According to a 2026 ranking highlighted by FOX Weather, Texas has been identified as the U.S. state with the worst mosquito problem, followed by Florida and New York.
Texas is home to more than 85 mosquito species, while Florida’s warm and humid climate allows mosquitoes to remain active for much of the year. New York, which ranks third on the list, is also home to more than 70 mosquito species. Mosquito activity in the state typically increases during the warmer months, particularly from May through September.

6. Alabama
7. South Carolina
8. North Carolina
9. Kentucky
10. Michigan
Experts say environmental conditions play a major role in mosquito populations. Areas with frequent rainfall, standing water, wetlands and warm temperatures can provide ideal breeding grounds for mosquitoes.
The growing mosquito population is also a public health concern. While most mosquito bites are harmless, certain species can transmit diseases to humans and animals. Health officials recommend eliminating standing water around homes, keeping windows and doors screened, and taking precautions when spending time outdoors.
As mosquito season continues, residents in affected states are being urged to remain vigilant and take preventive measures to reduce mosquito breeding and minimize the risk of mosquito-borne diseases.
