Jackson Heights Stunned by Sudden Passing of Beloved Community Figure Rahul Rob
Janaza Held in New York; Body to Be Repatriated to Balaganj, Sylhet

Sadia J. Choudhury , New York:

The Bangladeshi diaspora community in New York is in deep mourning following the sudden passing of Rahul Rob, a widely known, warm-hearted, and lively personality of Jackson Heights (Inna Lillahi wa Inna Ilayhi Raji’un). He passed away on June 21 after suffering a sudden cardiac arrest. He was under 50 at the time of his death.

According to family and local sources, Rahul Rob fell ill while driving on June 21. He was immediately taken to a nearby hospital, but despite the best efforts of doctors, he breathed his last shortly thereafter.

The first Janaza prayer for the deceased was held on Monday, June 22, after Zuhr prayer at the 73rd Street Mosque in Jackson Heights, adjacent to Diversity Plaza. A large crowd gathered to bid him a final farewell—reflecting the deep love and respect he earned within the community. His elder brother, wife, two young sons, relatives, friends, and numerous well-wishers attended the funeral prayer.

Following the Janaza, attendees prayed for the forgiveness of his soul and for Allah to grant him Jannatul Ferdous.

Family sources confirmed that after completing all formalities in New York, Rahul Rob’s body will be sent to his hometown in Balaganj, Sylhet, Bangladesh, where he will be laid to rest in the family graveyard.

His sudden and untimely death has cast a shadow of grief over the Bangladeshi community in Jackson Heights. The once vibrant and lively gatherings he was known for now feel incomplete. Leaders of various social, cultural, and regional organizations have expressed their deep condolences and extended heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved family.

Rahul Rob’s absence leaves behind an irreplaceable void in the community he so dearly enriched.
