A tragic incident unfolded in Queens late Friday night when a dispute over the sale of a family home ended in the deaths of two cousins. Police are investigating the case as a murder–suicide, leaving the local community in shock.
According to police sources, officers responded to reports of gunfire at a residence on 116th Road in Jamaica, Queens. Upon arrival, they discovered two men with gunshot wounds. One was pronounced dead at the scene, while the other was taken to the hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Investigators believe the cousins, aged 37 and 41, had been arguing over proceeds from the sale of a family-owned house. Relatives told police that tensions between them had escalated in recent days over how the money would be divided.
Preliminary findings suggest that one cousin shot the other during an argument and then turned the gun on himself. Police recovered a firearm from the scene and are continuing their investigation.
Authorities have not yet released the victims’ names pending family notification.
Neighbors described the men as “close and friendly,” expressing disbelief at the devastating outcome. “They were like brothers,” said one local resident. “It’s heartbreaking to think a family argument could end this way.”
Police say the investigation is ongoing.
