September 28, 2025: The state of Oregon has filed a federal lawsuit seeking to halt the deployment of 200 National Guard troops to Portland under the directive of President Donald Trump. The state argues that the move is illegal and based on misleading information.
Governor Tina Kotek stated, “There is no uprising or public safety threat in Portland that warrants military intervention. Local police and law enforcement agencies have fully controlled the situation.”
Oregon Attorney General Dan Rayfield described the deployment as unauthorized and said, “The president’s action does not respond to a legitimate emergency. It is based on exaggerated media reports and outdated video footage.”
Through the federal lawsuit, the state seeks to defend its sovereignty and clearly limit federal intervention. Oregon officials are hopeful that the court will rule in their favor and block the National Guard deployment.
Local residents have expressed concern, saying, “Our city is peaceful. There is no need for military presence.” Social media has seen widespread discussion about the controversial move.
The state’s legal action is being viewed as a direct challenge to federal overreach, highlighting the delicate balance of power between state and federal authorities in the United States.
