Yahoo News: Super Typhoon Ragasa, the world’s most powerful tropical cyclone this year, is moving toward Hong Kong, bringing heavy rainfall and destructive winds to the city. The China Meteorological Administration has since dubbed Ragasa as the “King of Storms.”
7The typhoon is set to be closest to Hong Kong in the early hours of Wednesday, Sept. 24, per the most recent advisory from the Hong Kong Observatory. As of 2 a.m. local time, Ragasa was centered approximately 90 miles south-southeast of Hong Kong.
Local winds in Hong Kong will continue to strengthen, and areas that were previously sheltered may become exposed, the Hong Kong Observatory warns. The public should remain on high alert, as local weather will be “persistently adverse today” with heavy rain showers and thunderstorms, according to forecasters. Overtopping of waves over the shoreline will be “phenomenal with swells,” and the public is advised to stay away from the water and refrain from engaging in water sports.
