Cricket fans around the world are showing extraordinary enthusiasm for the highly anticipated India-Pakistan clash at the 2027 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup. More than 8.4 million ticket requests have reportedly been submitted for the group-stage encounter, despite the stadium having a capacity of only around 34,000 spectators.
According to India Today, the match is scheduled for October 10, 2027, at The Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg, South Africa. A total of 8,397,294 ticket requests have been recorded for the blockbuster fixture.
Demand for the World Cup final is also exceptionally high. The final, scheduled for November 21 at the same venue, has attracted approximately 7.9 million ticket requests. However, the India-Pakistan encounter has generated even greater interest.
According to the International Cricket Council (ICC), approximately 2.8 million individual fans from 193 countries have applied for tickets to the tournament. Overall ticket requests across all matches have reportedly exceeded 120 million.
Tickets will be allocated through a lottery system, meaning submitting an application does not guarantee a ticket. The application window is scheduled to remain open until November 21, 2026.
The 2027 World Cup will be jointly hosted by South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia, marking the tournament’s return to African soil after 24 years. The 14-team competition is scheduled to run from October 2 through November 21, 2027.
The overwhelming demand highlights the enduring global appeal of the India-Pakistan cricket rivalry, widely regarded as one of the sport’s most anticipated international matchups.
