Queens, NY: In a tragic early morning incident on Saturday, a 16-year-old girl was allegedly struck and killed by 38-year-old driver Edwin Cruz Gomez near the Prima Dona restaurant on Roosevelt Avenue in Elmhurst, Queens.
Police reported that Gomez was intoxicated at the time and had reportedly made inappropriate sexual remarks toward the victim and her mother. Following a verbal dispute, Gomez allegedly drove his car into the teen, killing her instantly. The victim’s mother and stepfather were injured while trying to intervene.
Gomez fled the scene but was quickly apprehended by authorities. Tests showed his blood alcohol level exceeded the legal limit. He now faces multiple charges, including murder, attempted murder, and driving under the influence. If convicted, he could face 25 years to life in prison.
The next court hearing is scheduled for Friday, September 19. The tragic event has sparked outrage in the local community, raising serious concerns about public safety and justice.
