iHeartRadio: Governor Kathy Hochul has announced a proposal to allocate $110 million for the construction of new childcare facilities across New York State. This initiative aims to address the shortage of childcare centers, especially for lower-income families who may not have access to nearby facilities. Hochul plans to present this proposal during her state of the state address next week.
The governor’s proposal is part of a broader effort to support families in New York. In addition to building new childcare centers, Hochul is also advocating for an expansion of the state’s child tax credit. The proposed expansion would provide significant financial relief to families, offering up to $1,000 per child under four years old and up to $500 per child aged four to sixteen. This expansion is expected to benefit over 2.75 million children across the state.
Hochul’s initiatives are designed to make New York more affordable for families by addressing both childcare accessibility and financial support. The governor emphasized the importance of these measures, stating, “From groceries to strollers to kids’ clothes, the cost of living and raising a family is still too damn high.”
The proposal to build new childcare facilities is expected to be a key component of Hochul’s upcoming address.
