NY — September 29, 2025: Tragedy struck in Midwood on Monday evening when a 4-year-old girl was hit by a school bus while crossing East 2nd Street, between Avenues I and J.
The Incident
The accident happened shortly before 5:00 p.m. Emergency responders rushed the child to Maimonides Hospital, where she remains in critical condition. The school bus driver stayed at the scene and is cooperating with investigators.
Police have not yet confirmed whether students were on the bus at the time. No arrests have been made as the NYPD’s Collision Investigation Squad continues to examine the case.

Residents expressed deep concern, calling for stronger safety measures in the neighborhood. Suggestions include additional crosswalks, clearer signage, and speed bumps to prevent similar tragedies.
