The Generation News Desk | New York | October 10, 2025:

New York State Attorney General Letitia (Tish) James, recently indicted on financial fraud charges, has received public support from several progressive Democratic leaders — including Assemblymember Zohran Mamdani, who has openly defended her amid growing political controversy.

Speaking at a rally on Friday, Mamdani said,

“This is a clear act of political retribution. The very person who stood up against corruption is now being punished for it.”

Political Context

Attorney General Letitia James has been a central figure in New York’s legal and political landscape, particularly after her high-profile case against the Trump Organization. The recent indictment — which includes allegations of bank fraud and false financial statements — has ignited sharp divisions across the political spectrum.

Progressive leaders have denounced the case as “politically motivated,” arguing that the Justice Department is being weaponized to punish an outspoken official.

Division Among Democrats

While several Democrats have expressed solidarity with James, others within the party have voiced concern that public support during an active legal case could create political fallout. Critics warn that the move may complicate the party’s unity ahead of the upcoming election season.

Impact on the Mayoral Race

Zohran Mamdani, a candidate in New York City’s 2025 mayoral race, is seen as taking a bold political stance. Analysts believe his support for James could strengthen his progressive base but also risk alienating moderate Democrats.
