Desk Report: The third round of tariff talks between Bangladesh and the US is set to start today (July 29) in Washington DC.
Commerce Adviser Sk Bashir Uddin, who is leading the Banglagesh side, and National Security Adviser Khalilur Rahman are in the US capital for the three-day talks.
Based on progress made so far, Bangladesh hopes for a positive outcome from this round, said a press release issued by chief adviser’s press wing.
The Bangladeshi delegation left for the US yesterday to engage in the third and final round of negotiations with the Trump administration, seeking to lower a new tariff rate on the country’s products.
A 35 percent tariff is set to be imposed on Bangladeshi products entering the American markets from August 1.
US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick on Sunday said the deadline of August 1 for imposing tariffs on its trading partners “is firm and there will be no extensions”.
