The Bangladesh Society, Inc. organized a special Doa Mahfil (prayer gathering) at the Jamaica Muslim Center in Queens, New York, to honor the memory of the victims of two recent tragedies that deeply moved both the Bangladeshi and Bangladeshi-American communities.
Prayers were offered for the souls of the students and teachers of Milestone School and College in Bangladesh, who tragically lost their lives in a military training aircraft crash. Additionally, heartfelt prayers were made for NYPD Officer Didarul Islam, a Bangladeshi-American who was killed in the line of duty in New York City earlier this week.
The event saw the presence of Bangladesh Society President Ataur Rahman Selim, General Secretary Mohammad Ali, along with all executive members of the organization.
The gathering was attended by community leaders, professionals from various walks of life, and a significant number of journalists from both print and electronic media.
Speakers at the event emphasized the importance of collective mourning and solidarity, stating,
“This is not just a prayer for the departed—it is a reflection of our unity, compassion, and commitment to stand together in moments of tragedy, no matter where they occur.”
The evening concluded with an emotional prayer session, seeking eternal peace for the departed souls and strength for the grieving families.
