NEW YORK : As we approach 2024, the New York City Police Foundation is introducing the NYPD Canine and Friends calendar.
All of the K-9s and horses from the department’s Mounted Unit are front and center in the calendar, along with their human counterparts.
The 13-month calendar spans from January 2024 to January 2025 and features photos of the NYPD’s four-legged partners in action.
Eyewitness News Mornings @ 10 showed off a preview of the calendar and some of its stars Monday morning.
“They are really the unsung heroes of the NYPD,” said First Deputy Commissioner Tania Kinsella.
For the month of June is Constable, ever the showstopper, in Times Square.
K-9 Freddie sniffs for bombs, explosives and firearms. In fact, even when arriving at the Eyewitness News studios, he went right to work. He’s always on the lookout.
“It’s critical for us to showcase different elements that these officers are responsible for,” said Taylor Kahn of the NYC Police Foundation.
Each of the NYPD’s K-9s is named in honor of a fallen officer.
One of them, Lindsay, part of the ESU Canine Team, is named after Detective Chris Lindsay, who died from 9/11 related cancer. “She’s my partner, my confidant, my best friend, my protector,” said Detective Christina Orlando. “We have a bond like no other.”
The calendar is $35, and proceeds will benefit ongoing Police Foundation programs and initiatives.
The NYPD said that they make a wonderful holiday gift!
