New York— October 2, 2025: To address ongoing challenges in New York City’s school bus system, Greg Faulkner, Chair of the Educational Policy Panel, has appointed Shamsul Haque as the Chair of a newly formed special commission.
Haque, a retired NYPD lieutenant, is the former president and co-founder of the Bangladeshi American Police Association. He has also served as a member of the Board of Trustees Committee of the City University of New York. In addition to his professional service, Haque is a father of two and holds a master’s degree from Columbia University, credentials that make him uniquely qualified for this responsibility.
The special commission will work to address delays, miscommunication, and logistical problems with student transportation and will provide recommendations to the Department of Education (DOE) and the Educational Policy Panel.
“Our goal is to ensure safe, timely, and reliable transportation for all students,” said Haque.
