Agencies: US Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem swore in Sean Curran as the new director of the Secret Service on Monday. President Donald Trump administered the oath of office to Curran at the White House.
“I just want to say you’re going to do a great job. I want to congratulate you as an exceptional guy with a great family,” Trump said.
Curran, who previously served as the head of Trump’s Secret Service detail, protected him from an assassination attempt at his campaign rally in Butler County, Pennsylvania last summer.
When announcing his selection to lead the agency, Trump said that Curran “distinguished himself as a brilliant leader, who is capable of directing and leading operational security plans for some of the most complex special security events.”
“He proved his fearless courage when he risked his own life to help save mine from an assassin’s bullet in Butler, Pennsylvania.
I have complete and total confidence in Sean to make the United States Secret Service stronger than ever before,” Trump said in January.
The Secret Service has faced criticism over security failures and poor communication after the assassination attempt on July 13, 2024 which injured Trump during his campaign rally in Butler. A second assassination attempt was foiled near his golf club in Florida on Sept. 15.
