Congress Challenges Police Action During Student Protest; Opposition Demands Accountability From Government

Political tensions have intensified in India’s capital after Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, led a protest outside Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s official residence. The demonstration was organized over allegations regarding police action during a student protest and demands for greater accountability from the government.
Rahul Gandhi was joined by Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and other senior party leaders during the protest. The Congress accused the authorities of using excessive force against students and demanded a clear explanation regarding the handling of the demonstrations.
Security was tightened around the Prime Minister’s residence as the protest unfolded. Delhi Police took measures to control the situation, and several Congress leaders, including Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi, were reportedly detained during the demonstration.
Rahul Gandhi said that protecting the democratic right to peaceful protest is a fundamental responsibility of the government. He called for answers over the treatment of students and questioned the role of law enforcement during the unrest.
Government authorities, however, maintained that maintaining law and order and protecting sensitive areas were their primary responsibilities. Officials emphasized that security measures were taken according to established procedures.
The incident has triggered a fresh political debate across India. Opposition leaders accused the government of attempting to suppress public voices, while the ruling side argued that maintaining peace and security remains essential.
