Year : 2, Issue : 4
This year’s Oscar nominations have just been announced and they’re the icing on the big, atomic cake baked by Christopher Nolan and Oppenheimer. To sit proudly along its $955 million in box-office takings, the World War II-era epic will be competing for 13 Academy Awards at LA’s Dolby Theater on March 20.
Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon picked up ten nominations, including the great man’s tenth Best Director nod (he’s won once, for The Departed). Lily Gladstone, snubbed at this year’s BAFTAs, is up for Best Actress, the first indigenous American actor to be nominated in the category.
Other big winners at today’s announcement included Yorgos Lanthimos’s Poor Things, a giddy, gonzo picaresque, picked up nominations in 11 categories, include Best Actress (Emma Stone), Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Director (both Lanthimos).
