Two suspects flee Norwood scene on e-bikes; officer hospitalized as NYPD launches manhunt

Salman J. Choudhury:
— An off-duty NYPD detective was stabbed multiple times Friday afternoon in the Norwood section of the Bronx, prompting a major police response and an active search for two suspects.

The attack occurred shortly before 2 p.m. near East 206th Street and Rochambeau Avenue, according to police. The officer was rushed to Jacobi Medical Center for treatment. The latest reports said he was in stable condition.

Police said two male suspects fled the area on e-bikes following the attack. No arrests had been made as of the latest available report, and detectives were continuing to search for the suspects and determine exactly what led to the stabbing.

The incident triggered a large police presence in the Norwood neighborhood as investigators worked to gather evidence and identify the suspects. The circumstances surrounding the attack remain under investigation.

Safety Concerns Across the Bronx

The stabbing comes amid continued concerns about public safety in New York City neighborhoods where residents, workers and commuters move through busy streets every day.

For New York’s Bangladeshi-American community, the incident carries particular relevance. Thousands of Bangladeshi New Yorkers live, work and operate businesses across the Bronx, Queens and Brooklyn, frequently traveling through neighborhood streets, commercial corridors and public transportation hubs.

Many community members work late shifts or travel early in the morning, making street safety an everyday concern. The attack also highlights the unpredictable nature of violent incidents and the importance of rapid emergency response and effective neighborhood policing.

NYPD Search Underway

Investigators are asking anyone who may have witnessed the attack or seen the suspects fleeing the area to provide information to police.

The investigation remains active, and authorities have not announced any arrests. Additional details are expected as detectives continue working to identify and locate the suspects.

This is a developing story.
