Gothamist: New York City is set to get 267 new fast-charging stalls for electric vehicles by 2027, Gov. Kathy Hochul announced Monday.
The $60 million project aims to accelerate electric vehicle charging infrastructure in the city and increase access for the wider adoption of EVs, according to an announcement from Hochul’s office. It’s funded by a loan from the NY Green Bank, the state’s energy investment fund, to Revel, the city’s largest fast-charging provider.
The project will more than triple the size of the company’s fast-charging network in New York City, Hochul said. The new stalls will be able to charge an EV in as little as 15 minutes, with speeds of at least 320 kilowatts, she said. They’ll be open 24/7 and able to charge any make of electric vehicle.
Hochul said the investment addresses the need for public charging options while also reducing local emissions.
“In support of the transition to a clean energy economy, it is critical that we continue to build electric vehicle infrastructure to ease the shift to EV ownership for more New Yorkers, especially those in urban areas,” Hochul said in the announcement.
The charging stalls will be built at nine sites across the city over the next two years, starting with five sites over the next 12 months.
