THE BRONX (WABC) — No. 2 train service has resumed with delays after a fire at the terminal station in the Bronx.
No. 2 service was briefly halted between Gun Hill Rd and Wakefield-241 St while FDNY responded to the fire.
Cellphone and Citizen app video showed flames shooting from the station.
Anaiyah Glover, who was on her way to work aboard a northbound No. 2 train approaching the station, described her reaction.
“I was worried. I was running, I just ran. I was like, I have asthma. I’m not trying to, you know, lose my life,” Glover said.
MTA officials said the fire has been extinguished and there are no injuries.
“There were no injuries. Although it was a highly visible conflagration and, as I said, the safety operation of New York City Transit is now investigating the cause of that fire. But I emphasize, it’s been extinguished, no injuries,” MTA Chair Janno Lieber said.
No. 2 trains are now running in both directions.
MTA officials said the fire started in the storage area that is used as a locker room and is under investigation.
