Nikki Haley Sharpens Contrast With Trump Ahead Of Crucial Primary

Days ahead of the crucial South Carolina Republican primary, Nikki Haley has asserted herself as the candidate capable of uniting Americans. The Indian-American Republican is trying to highlight her contrast with frontrunner Donald Trump.

In the final days leading up to the South Carolina Republican primary, Nikki Haley is sharpening her position as the sole remaining candidate capable of uniting Americans, despite Donald Trump’s continued dominance and popularity in her home state.

Haley faces a significant challenge as South Carolina prepares to vote on Saturday, a primary that’s crucial for her.

Trump’s victory in the 2016 primary solidified his position, with the backing of all the state’s top elected officials and nearly all its Republican congress members. A crucial aspect of Haley’s campaign is her focus on foreign policy expertise, drawn from her tenure as Trump’s United Nations ambassador. She frequently highlights areas where she would have taken a different approach from her former boss.

“I will absolutely put the hammer on our Nato countries that they do have to carry their weight, but you do that behind closed doors,” Haley said on Sunday, according to the Associated Press. Haley’s comments came during a town hall on Fox News with John Roberts, broadcast from a venue in downtown Columbia, South Carolina.

Trump’s recent rally included a warning to Nato allies, suggesting he would support Russia’s actions against “delinquent” nations. Nato leaders expressed concerns that Trump’s criticisms of international alliances and foreign aid could endanger security for American and European forces.

“We should make sure we tell our partners it’s in their best interest to hold their own weight,” Haley said on Sunday. She said “Trump did it by saying he was going to encourage Putin to invade our allies. That’s the wrong way.”

In a campaign event in Sumter, South Carolina, home to an Air Force base and many military veterans, Haley condemned Trump’s alignment with Vladimir Putin, referring to the Russian president as “a thug” and “a dictator who killed his political opponents”, according to the Associated Press.

HALEY’S NEW AD SAYS SHE’S THE BEST TO ‘UNITE’ THE US
Haley’s new television ad, “Unite”, underscores her belief that she is the best candidate to handle conflicts with foreign leaders and ensure America’s strength internationally.
The ad says that Haley gave clear guidance during tough times. It shows headlines about the killing of nine Black people at a Charleston church in 2015, during Haley’s time as South Carolina governor. Then it asks, “What’s next? That’s up to you.”

NIKKI HALEY TRIES TO BROADEN HER APPEAL
Despite trailing Trump in early contests, Haley remains confident in her prospects, citing her undefeated record in previous elections. She aims to broaden her appeal to voters, including those who typically participate in Democratic primaries.
