WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. (PIX11) — A newborn baby was found abandoned inside a ShopRite on Sunday morning, according to authorities.
Officers were called to the supermarket inside the City Center shopping complex in White Plains, where they found the infant in a women’s restroom, according to police.
The newborn was taken to a local hospital and is in stable condition, police said.
Police said they are investigating who left the infant there and the circumstances surrounding the possible abandonment. No additional information was immediately available.
“The circumstances surrounding this event are heart‑wrenching, and our thoughts remain with the infant during their recovery,” officials said in a press release.
Officials also reminded the public of New York State’s Safe Haven law, which is designed to prevent abandonments and ensure the safety of newborns.
