CBS: New York won a legal victory Tuesday in the ongoing congestion pricing battle with the Trump administration.
The Metropolitan Transportation Authority had sought a preliminary injunction to stop U.S. Department of Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy from threatening to withhold federal funding for future infrastructure projects.
Both sides had 45 minutes to present their arguments Tuesday, before the judge issued a temporary restraining order until June 9. That means the feds cannot penalize New York for keeping the cameras on in the meantime.
Lawyers for the MTA argued the federal government does not have the authority to revoke congestion pricing, and they argued the agency isn’t collecting any federal money for the program.
The government, however, claimed the MTA has disobeyed numerous deadlines, and argued the toll puts a disproportionate burden on low-to-medium-income drivers who need to access Manhattan’s Congestion Relief Zone.
