2023 is one step closer to ending, and let me tell you, I’m still stuck in March. It happened so quick while I was still trying to find costumes online for Halloween.
My friends were celebrating Christmas and opening presents. Everything went by so fast, I forgot to savor every last second. Today is Christmas, though not a lot of people care much. It’s a day to spend quality time with family and friends, but let’s not forget about your fellow neighbors in the community or your coworkers.
Everyone has their favorite holidays, like my friend John loves Thanksgiving, probably because of the good food. C’mon, who doesn’t like a nice FREE meal? My other friend Margaret loves Halloween and everything it has to offer, from movies to scary costumes to those disgusting candy corn people somehow like. And I wanted to write this small story about my experience, which goes way back in 2016. I wasn’t really in touch with gaming back then, but my cousin was a die-hard gamer. He was the first to show me, and from then on, I just fell in love with it. Me and him used to be on shooter games for hours just fighting one another, but the console was a bit outdated at the time.
It’s like driving a Honda Civic in 2023. I remember seeing it the first time, the Xbox One, and was so mesmerized by it that it was picked up by my dad, and he saw how much I wanted it. On December 25, 2016, it was Christmas. I was anxiously waiting, thinking maybe I’d get the console or maybe school supplies, like I’m so scholar-like, right? We weren’t the most financially stable family, and $300$ was a lot to us. I saw my dad come through that door with a big rectangle box; any genius could recognize it’s a new console from a mile away, and I burst out of excitement, jumping out of the sofa, and was totally not expecting it.
I still have that console, even after 6 years. Just sitting here reminiscing about it brings tears to my face. That’s how much it meant to me.
Christmas showed me how to be thankful to others, treat them how you want to be treated, and of course surprise them with gifts, because who doesn’t like gifts, am I right?
