PIX11, New Jersey: A sergeant of the Jersey City Police Department has been accused of sexually assaulting a minor, according to Bergen County prosecutors.
Jersey City Sgt. Andrew LaBruno, 44, was arrested and charged with aggravated sexual assault, sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a child on Monday, authorities said.
LaBruno, who ran for State Assembly in District 39 in this past election, is accused of engaging in social media conversations with a minor, arranging to meet, then sexually assaulting them in the child’s home in Englewood while they were alone together, according to officials.
LaBruno, the former mayor of Dumont, was taken to the Bergen County Jail and is awaiting a detention hearing in Bergen County Superior Court.
