NEW YORK— Governor Kathy Hochul held a rally today to stand with New Yorkers affected by federal budget cuts, highlighting the urgent need for state intervention as Republican-led policies threaten critical health, food, and social services programs.
“I am doing everything in my power to make sure New Yorkers don’t go hungry during this crisis,” Hochul said. “We will fight together against this inhumane federal decision.”
$30 Million Emergency Food Aid
Governor Hochul announced a $30 million emergency food assistance program, expected to deliver nearly 16 million meals across the state. The aid focuses on families who rely on the SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program), approximately 300,000 households at risk of losing benefits starting in November due to delayed federal funding from the USDA (United States Department of Agriculture).
New State Platform for Support
To coordinate relief efforts, Hochul launched ny.gov/federalcuts — a new website allowing New Yorkers to share their experiences, report hardships, and access available support programs. The platform will provide updates on state-led assistance and resources for affected communities.
Standing With the People
The rally emphasized the state’s commitment to protect vulnerable populations when federal policies fail. Hochul stressed that New York would continue to prioritize the welfare of its residents despite partisan challenges at the national level.
“New Yorkers deserve security and dignity,” she said. “Our mission is to ensure no one is left behind.”
Broader Impact
Analysts say the state’s emergency funding and public rally underscore New York’s proactive approach to social safety and highlight the growing tension between federal and state priorities over essential services.
