Nearly twenty years after her television breakthrough, the singer’s latest award adds a new milestone to a career across several musical forms.
For Ronti Das, the journey from a televised singing competition to international stages has unfolded through years of recordings and performances. Her latest milestone is the Dhallywood Award 2026 in the Best Melody Singer (Female) category, presented by singer Rizia Parveen at a ceremony in the United States.
Born in Chattogram, Das began exploring music as a child. Early competition success helped introduce her to a broader audience: she placed second in Natun Kuri in 2002 and later finished as second runner-up in Close Up 1 in 2006.
The latter became an important turning point, bringing national visibility and opening a new phase of professional work. Over the years that followed, she developed a repertoire encompassing contemporary Bangla songs, folk music and playback singing.
Her career has moved between the recording studio, television and the concert stage. Songs including “Hello Brishti,” “Rong,” “Ekela” and “Obhimani” form part of that body of work. Her playback contributions have also connected her voice with Bangladeshi cinema.
Performances abroad have extended that journey beyond Bangladesh. Now living in New York, Das maintains her connection with Bangla music while reaching listeners in different countries and communities.
Her next plans include sharing that experience with learners. Ronti’s Music Kitchen is being developed to offer instruction in classical, folk and contemporary music, alongside Rabindra Sangeet, Nazrul Sangeet and voice training. Online and in-person lessons are planned, including free learning opportunities for children with special needs.
The latest honour comes twenty years after the television appearance that brought Das widespread recognition. As she looks towards further recordings and teaching, her career is entering a phase in which performing and passing on musical knowledge can develop together.
