Former NFL running back Dion Lewis was arrested in Florida on Monday, according to TMZ.
The report cites a Hillsborough County (Fla.) jail official who said the 32-year-old Lewis was booked Monday shortly after 3 p.m. on a misdemeanor charge of trespassing.
Lewis was arrested at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino for “causing a disturbance and refusing to leave the premises, per the Seminole Police Department. TMZ reports Lewis was released Monday night shortly before midnight on $500 bond. Lewis’ NFL career began in 2011 as a fifth-round draft pick of the Eagles.
He played two seasons in Philadelphia, seeing limited action in 24 games before the Eagles traded him to the Browns ahead of the 2013 season. However, Lewis never played for Cleveland after suffering a broken leg. Lewis tried to catch on with the Colts in 2014 but ended up spending the season unemployed. Then, the Patriots came calling and changed his career trajectory.
Lewis spent three seasons in New England, helping the team win its fifth Super Bowl title in 2017 when the Patriots rallied from a 28-3 deficit to beat Atlanta, 34-28, in overtime in Super Bowl LI.
He then ran for a career-best 896 yards and six touchdowns in the 2017 season to help the Patriots return to the Super Bowl, which they lost, 41-33, to the Eagles. Lewis signed with the Titans as a free agent in 2018 but saw his role diminished as Derrick Henry established himself in Tennessee as one of the best running backs in the NFL. The Titans released Lewis before the 2020 season and he caught on with the Giants.
